The McLaren company presented its new supercar — the hybrid W1, which became the spiritual successor to the famous F1 and P1. The W1 engine output is 937 kW (1,275 hp), which makes it the most powerful road McLaren in history — previously this title was held by the Speedtail, whose power plant develops 772 kW (1,050 hp).
The date of the car’s presentation was not chosen by chance: the premiere is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of McLaren’s first Formula 1 championship title — on October 6, 1974, following the results of the US Grand Prix, Emerson Fittipaldi became a two-time world champion.
The McLaren W1 power plant is based on a completely new 4-liter twin-turbo MHP-8 V8 engine, which, together with the hybrid component, generates 937 kW (1,275 hp). Thus, with a dry weight of 1,399 kilograms, the W1's power-to-weight ratio is 911 horsepower per ton.
The McLaren W1 accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 5.8, and its maximum speed is 350 km/h. It is also reported that the McLaren W1 can travel a quarter mile in less than 9.6 seconds
The car has active aerodynamics. Thus, the driver has access to an active front splitter and an adjustable rear spoiler, which can change not only the angle of attack, but also its own position relative to the body, moving within 30 cm. It is reported that the car has a ground effect and generates more than a ton of downforce.
The McLaren W1 will be released in a circulation of 399 copies, the cost of the car is $ 2.1 million.
